You may have just begun or are about to begin solid food for your baby once he or she has reached the 6 month mark. Whatever the case may be, it is critical to proceed slowly and to follow the baby's lead. I start with very dilute purees for 6 month old babies and gradually thicken them as baby gets used to it.

And always wait three days before introducing a new food to your baby. There are different opinions on whether you nerd to wait three days but it makes sense to me. Start with a small amount and keep an eye out for any rashes or allergies including breathing, constipation,  diarhhea or any other reaction.

So, if you introduce banana puree on day one, you should continue it for the next three days before adding the next item, say, apple puree. Once you've determined that it's safe, you can combine it with something like homemade brown rice cereal.

Note

By adding breast milk or formula milk, you can make any of the purees or porridge runny.

Thicker purees will aid in the addition of calories.

Follow a feeding routine, such as putting on the bib and placing the baby in high chair.

Continue breastfeeding / formula feed as needed. You can't overfeed baby because they will stop eating when they've had enough. But don't give milk immediately after feeding solids or they may vomit - try to leave a gap of at least 30 minutes.

Under the age of one year: no salt, sugar or honey.
