Meet the new 2025 BMW iX

Up to 426 miles of range and 659bhp, a new battery and some styling tweaks

The BMW iX, the brand’s tech-packed electric flagship, has undergone a significant update, enhancing both power and efficiency. This overhaul boosts its range to an impressive 426 miles.

Set to hit the UK in May, with prices starting at £74,400, the updated iX takes on rivals like the Audi Q8 E-tron and Volvo EX90. While the exterior design has only seen subtle tweaks, the real changes are under the hood. Product manager Marisa Hammersen emphasized BMW’s focus on optimizing efficiency across every aspect of the vehicle. One example she highlighted is the new headlights, which consume less energy when switched on.

The German automaker has upgraded the electric motors, incorporating a new silicon-carbide inverter to minimize power losses. Additionally, they’ve fine-tuned the drive system and refined the electronics to further boost efficiency. The iX now also offers new driving modes, with options designed to deliver either extra performance or maximize efficiency.

As before, the iX comes in three variants, each with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. To reflect the enhanced performance, the previous iX 40 and iX 50 models have been replaced by the iX 45 and iX 60, while the high-performance M60 is now available as the even more powerful M70. These new names align the iX with the i5 electric sedan.

The entry-level iX 45 now delivers 402bhp—an increase of 80bhp—and 516lb-ft of torque. Powered by a new 94.8kWh battery, it offers a range of up to 374 miles and boasts an official efficiency rating of 2.97mpkWh. Available in Sport and M Sport trims, the iX 45 starts at £74,400, marking a small price increase over the previous model.

The iX 60, available only in M Sport trim and priced from £92,200, generates 536bhp and 564lb-ft of torque. With its new 109.1kWh battery, it achieves an impressive range of 426 miles in UK trim, which is up to 34 miles more than the previous model, depending on the spec. Both the iX 45 and iX 60 have a top speed limited to 124mph.
